The UK government has launched a £15 billion Warm Homes Plan to help millions of families cut energy bills, upgrade their homes to cleaner technology, and reduce carbon emissions.

What the Warm Homes Plan does

  • Up to five million homes could benefit by 2030.

  • Solar panels, home batteries, heat pumps, and insulation will be supported through loans and free packages for low-income households.

  • Zero/ low-interest government loans will help cover the cost for homeowners who don’t qualify for free upgrades.

A new Warm Homes Agency aims to make finding support and navigating applications easier.

What homeowners might save

Recent analysis by social charity Nesta finds that compared with a typical home on a standard tariff with a gas boiler, households that adopt combinations of clean technology under the plan could reduce yearly energy costs:

  • Solar only: around £620+ savings annually

  • Heat Pump only: around £280+ annually

  • Solar + Battery: around £750+ annually

  • Solar + Battery + Heat Pump: around £1,000+ annually

How to get started

Details on how to apply for loans will follow later in 2026. You can already:

  • Sign up for updates or check eligibility online.

  • Consider an energy home survey to understand your property’s retrofit potential.

Watch out for scams

Official loans and support are not yet live. Be cautious of unsolicited calls or texts claiming access to Warm Homes funding. Read more from Which? here.

Conclusion

Whether you’re looking to slash your bills, make your home warmer and greener, or join the “rooftop revolution” of UK solar, the Warm Homes Plan could be your moment to act with government support removing upfront cost barriers. Look out for further details as they emerge.
